Welcome to an engaging seminar on exploring dreams and putting them to use for personal growth and depth work.
At this point it occurred to me that (if I was right in the reasoning above) dreams might well have some special and more significant function of their own. Very often they are clearly structured so as to point to the thought or intention behind them, which, however, is almost impossible to recognise at once. So I wondered whether it would not be better to pay more attention to the form and content of a particular dream than to follow “free” associations along a chain of ideas to complexes that could just as easily be found by other means.
This thought was a turning point in the development of my ideas. I gradually gave up the associative method, which led too far from the content of the dream, and chose to concentrate on the dreams themselves, believing that they express a message the unconscious is trying to convey.
